What is a non-surgical lip augmentation treatment?
Bio-compatible, bio-degradable Hyaluronic gel fillers may be injected into the lips to improve the size and shape, as well as surrounding areas to aid in supporting a downturned mouth for a more neutral, pleasing mouth position.
How does the non-surgical lip filler work?
Hyaluronic acid is naturally present in the skin and degrades with age. Through replacement of Hyaluronic acid with an injectable bio-compatible filler, the lips take on more moisture, resulting in increased suppleness and moisture.
If one so desires, the size and shape of the lips can also be augmented to become shapelier, fuller, or simply more hydrated.
Some of our patients get lip filler injections to enhance the Cupid’s bow, minimize lip lines that cause lip stick to run, or to change the proportions of the upper lip to lower lip.

How many treatments are recommended?
A subtle lip augmentation for hydration, suppleness and improvement of lip lines can often be achieved with just .5 to 1.0 cc of injectable filler, and in a single session that takes just 15 minutes.
If you desire lips that are remarkably fuller than what you present with during your initial appointment, your desired goal may require 2 sessions, with 1cc of Hyaluronic gel filler artistically injected during each session.
What can I expect during and after treatment?
Eat before your arrival and be certain your blood sugar is not low. Bring reading material or something to listen to while your lips are numbed with a strong topical anesthetic.
Pre-op generally requires 20 minutes, while the entire service is performed in under 1 hour. Immediately after the procedure, and for the next hour and a half your lips will still be a little numb, and you may not want to eat Right away to prevent biting your lip.
Is there downtime after treatment?
If you take Arnica Montana botanical caplets and refrain from consuming alcoholic beverages, as well as staying off of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications; such as, Advil, Aleve, Aspirin, Naproxen Sodium for 3 days prior to your treatment you will be less likely to bruise. (though we can not guarantee you will be free from bruising.)
Day 1 – a little numb feeling and lips will be more pink than usual. If bruising will occur, generally there are immediate hints. (Icing, arnica montana, pineapple and benedryl can help)
Day 2 – swelling upon waking, and you may look in the mirror and think, “oh my! What did I do”. Don’t worry, the histamine response coupled with the Hyaluronic acid causes the lips to enlarge beyond their final result. Some asymmetries may be visible due to non uniform swelling or hematoma.
Day 3 – the lips are settling and the swelling is diminishing. Some patients at this stage think they’d actually like to go bigger because the swelling created an even more pleasing fullness.
Day 4-7 – If you were bruised, it’s nearly invisible and can be covered with lip stick if desired.
Day 8-14 – the lips begin to feel more familiar and like your own. The injectable filler begins to meld with your own tissue and take on a natural appearance. At day 14, most people are healed enough and confident in their ability to participate in a special event or take professional photos.
Day 30 – it’s hard to distinguish between the injectable filler material and your own natural lip. Final results are assessed during a follow up visit to determine our satisfaction with the results. If any touch up is required, this is the ideal time to take action.
When will I see results?
Immediately after the procedure, though full results won’t be realized until healing has occurred (10-30 days).
