As men and women age, hormone levels decline. This causes significant changes in the body, including low energy, weight gain, difficulty sleeping, and loss of libido. Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT) helps alleviate these symptoms while reducing the risk of many diseases associated with aging.

The key to restoring these levels is by first properly diagnosing the imbalances that are present and then introducing natural, Bioidentical Hormones to replenish and balance the body.

Knowing exactly which hormones to replenish and how to adjust the levels for optimal results requires specialized tests and training. Veritas Backstage Medical Director Dr John Haest, MD has undergone extensive training in diagnosing, treating, monitoring and adjusting hormone levels for both men and women.

Benefits of Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy

By restoring our hormone foundation, we support our immune system thereby reducing inflammation (which leads to health concerns and diseases.) This has tremendously positive benefits on our brain, heart muscle, bones, and sleep to name a few.

For both men and women, there are a multitude of benefits from BHRT.  These include (but are not limited to):

Balanced moods: As hormone levels fluctuate, mood swings inevitably develop. For males, lower hormone levels can cause irritability and fatigue. Balancing the hormones has been shown to reduce anger, anxiety and help treat depression.

Prevent chronic physical and mental conditions: BHRT has been proven effective in decreasing headaches, irritability and bloating, as well as anxiety, depression and brain fog.

Prevent chronic diseases: Maintaining hormonal balance with BHRT has been shown to reduce the risk of colon cancer, osteoporosis, heart disease/heart attacks, strokes, dementia/alzheimer’s disease, prematurely aged skin, diabetes, depression.

Improved sleep: While hormone imbalances can interfere with sleep patterns, balanced hormones promote healthy, deep and uninterrupted sleep.

Improved libido: Decreasing hormone levels can reduce the desire to engage in sexual activity. BHRT helps to boost the libido, and has been shown to aid in erection strength and frequency.

Improved muscle mass: As we age and our hormone levels dip, our muscle mass declines. BHRT can have a potent effect on maintaining and helping to regain lost muscle mass.

Hair Thickening: Reduced hormone levels can result in thinning of the hair. Balanced hormones can effectively treat hormonal hair loss.

    Safety of Bioidentical Hormones

    Safety of Bioidentical Hormones

Unlike bioidentical hormones, the commonly prescribed synthetic hormones have been shown to introduce toxic by-products in the body, which can cause a wide array of side effects and more serious conditions.

Bioidentical hormones are safe and more effective than their synthetic counterparts because they are biologically identical to the molecular structure of the hormones found in your body. As a result, BHRT is free of the risks associated with synthetic hormones.

Why Choose Veritas Backstage for Your Hormone Therapy

Veritas Backstage’s hormone doctor, Dr. John Haest, MD, is a veritable Sherlock Holmes when it comes to reviewing and analyzing test result data. The core tools of his detective work – thorough patient evaluations extensive blood testing – are used to formulate customized hormone replacement protocols tailored to the specific needs of each patient.

While each patient is unique, and the timing of results can differ, the end result of our therapy is consistent across the board: Most of our clients experience renewed energy, increased libido and improved sense of well-being soon after beginning their BHRT regimen.

What is the process of Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy?

There a several ways of administering bio-identical hormones, including injections, pellets, creams, and torches. We work with our patients to determine the best solution for your needs and lifestyle. Below are details on the different delivery methods of BHRT:

Pellets are made up of bio-identical hormones that have been pressed or fused into very small solid cylinders and are about the size of a grain of rice. Pellets provide sustained hormone levels throughout the day and last for to 3 to 6 months. Pellets eliminate the fluctuations that can occur with other delivery methods. Pellets are not time released, but rather cardiac driven, meaning your body absorbs the pellets based on its actual needs. This delivery method most closely mimics the actions of the body’s natural hormone release.

Pellets have been used since the 1930’s and have more data to support their use than any other method. Insertion is quick and virtually painless. A small area between the hip and buttock is sterilized and a local anesthetic is injected just under the skin. A tiny nick is made in the fatty area of the hip and the pellets are inserted under the skin. The incision is so tiny that there is no need for any sutures. The fact that once the pellet is inserted one is committed to it for 3-6 month course and if the amount is incorrectly estimated, there can be undesired consequence until the pellet has been resorbed. Sometimes the patient has issues with the insertion site and there is a small scar at the insertion site.

Injections usually involve a weekly injection either administered here in our office or self-administered by the patient at home. Patients choosing injections as the route of administration rarely have a roller coaster effect, and some experience a peak after the shot followed by a slow decline towards the end of the cycle a week later. Some have reported that they begin to feel run-down towards the end of the week cycle, and for others, this is not an issue. This occurs with the pellet option as well. The solution to that is to administer divided doses twice a week or to “blend” the hormones with compounds that absorb at different rates thus smoothing out the levels in the bloodstream. Men usually prefer injection and it is safer to avoid transference to others experience with creams.

Creams can include a number of bio-identical hormones and are very customizable. When applied regularly, creams can provide a fairly consistent release of hormones. However, you need to remember to do this on a daily basis to maintain consistency. The biggest potential drawback to creams is the possibility of accidental transference. Also, dermal fatigue can occur which causes a decreased absorption over time. Site variation can avoid this. Also, the mucosal application can avoid this. Applying the cream to areas of the body that won’t come into contact with others and proper hand washing can help prevent accidental transference.

Troches are small lozenges that dissolve between the cheek and gum over a period of about 30 minutes. As they dissolve, hormones are gradually absorbed into the bloodstream. Troches are usually taken once or twice daily. Oral routes for testosterone and estrogen should be avoided due to the effects of digestion and liver activity on the hormone.
