SKIN TREATMENT

Dermaplaning

Manual exfoliation that removes surface buildup and vellus hair — leaving the skin clean, even, and significantly more receptive to treatment.

PRP — platelet-rich plasma — is drawn from a small sample of your own blood and processed to concentrate the growth factors your tissue uses for repair. When reintroduced to targeted areas, those growth factors signal your skin to produce new collagen, form new blood vessels, and regenerate tissue at a cellular level. No synthetic materials. No foreign compounds. Just your own biology, amplified.

Collagen loss, surface irregularity, and changes in skin quality all share a common root: diminished cellular activity over time. PRP addresses that root directly. It is one of the few treatments that supports the skin's own renewal mechanisms rather than substituting for them.

The response is gradual and progressive, building over four to six weeks as new tissue forms. Most patients complete a series of three sessions spaced four to six weeks apart, with results that continue to develop between appointments.

THE EXPERIENCE

Each dermaplaning session takes approximately 30 to 45 minutes. The treatment begins with a clinical cleanse. Your provider then uses a sterile surgical blade at a precise angle to exfoliate the full face in controlled, feathered strokes. The sensation is mild — most patients describe it as the edge of a card moving across the skin.

No numbing is required. Mild redness or sensitivity in the hours immediately following treatment is normal and typically resolves within the same day. Sunscreen is essential after treatment, as the freshly exfoliated skin is more sensitive to UV exposure.

Dermaplaning does not cause hair to grow back thicker or darker. Vellus hair is not the same as terminal hair — its structure is not changed by removal.

What it treats

SKIN SURFACE

  • Dull, congested skin from product and environmental buildup

  • Visible vellus hair (peach fuzz)

  • Uneven skin texture

  • Surface dryness and flaking

  • Skin that is unresponsive to topical products

COMBINATION CONCERNS

  • Pre-treatment preparation for peels, facials, and laser procedures

  • Ongoing maintenance between more intensive treatment sessions

IDEAL CANDIDATE

Dermaplaning is appropriate for most skin types and tones. It is one of the few exfoliation methods suitable for patients with rosacea, hypersensitivity, or reactivity to chemical exfoliants — there are no active acids or ingredients involved. It is not appropriate for patients with active acne lesions, as the blade should not pass over open or inflamed skin.

Patients who are pregnant often choose dermaplaning as a safe, ingredient-free exfoliation option when other treatments are not advisable.

Results and maintenance

Skin looks and feels notably cleaner and smoother immediately following treatment. Results last approximately three to four weeks as new surface cells accumulate. Most patients schedule dermaplaning every four weeks as a maintenance protocol, either standalone or paired with other skin treatments.

PAIRS WITH

Medical grade chemical peels use clinical-strength acids to resurface the skin at a deeper level — addressing pigmentation, acne, and uneven texture by removing damaged surface cells and signaling cellular renewal.

Dermaplaning before a chemical peel removes the surface layer of dead cells that would otherwise absorb a portion of the peel's active acids. The peel penetrates more evenly and efficiently on freshly dermaplaned skin — the result is more uniform, the effect is more consistent, and the downtime is more predictable.

This is one of the most effective treatment combinations in clinical skin maintenance, and many patients choose to schedule both services in the same appointment when their skin condition allows.

FAQ • NEED TO KNOW

QUESTIONS

No. Dermaplaning removes vellus hair — fine, unpigmented peach fuzz — by cutting it at the skin's surface. It does not affect the follicle, which is where hair color and thickness are determined. When the hair grows back, it returns to exactly the same texture and pigmentation it had before. Terminal hair — darker, coarser body hair — is not a candidate for dermaplaning.

Yes — dermaplaning is one of the best exfoliation options for sensitive skin. Because there are no active ingredients, acids, or chemical compounds involved, there is no risk of a reactive or inflammatory response from a product. The treatment is entirely mechanical. Patients with rosacea, reactivity, or ingredient sensitivities who cannot tolerate chemical exfoliants often choose dermaplaning as their primary maintenance option.

It is best to wait until the following morning. Immediately after dermaplaning, your skin is freshly exfoliated and slightly more sensitive. When you do apply makeup the following day, it will apply significantly more smoothly on the freshly exfoliated surface.

Most patients schedule dermaplaning every three to four weeks. This timing corresponds to the natural skin cell turnover cycle. More frequent treatment is not recommended and does not produce better results. If you are pairing dermaplaning with a chemical peel, your provider will schedule both treatments at the appropriate interval based on your skin's response.

Dermaplaning uses a surgical blade to remove the outermost cell layer and vellus hair cleanly — a smooth, precise removal with no abrasion, suction, or heat. Dermabrasion uses an abrasive instrument that mechanically sands the skin, typically to a deeper level and with more downtime. Microdermabrasion is a lighter version using a vacuum and abrasive tip. Dermaplaning is the most refined of the three methods.
