Sculptra® in Austin, TX
What is Sculptra?
Sculptra® Aesthetic is a volumizing injectable filler used in the correction of medium to deep facial wrinkles. It is administered in the dermal layer to rejuvenate your youthful facial structure by boosting the production of new collagen.
Sculptra is used primarily to correct:
- Smile lines
- Marionette lines (the lines from the corners of your mouth)
- Nasolabial folds (the lines from your nose to the corners of your mouth)
- Chin wrinkles
- Sunken areas such as your cheeks and temples
Maintaining a natural appearance is a common patient sentiment. That’s why Sculptra is quickly becoming one of our most popular volumizing fillers – It can be administered laterally across an area of the face (as opposed to spot-filling a small facial detail). This technique works to proportionately raise and lift everything together, maintaining the natural shape of your face.

How Does Sculptra Work?
Sculptra is made from poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), a synthetic gel comprised of the same lactic acid that occurs naturally in the body following exercise. It is perfectly safe, FDA-approved, and contains absolutely no animal by-products or human DNA.
Once injected, Sculptra works to boost collagen production which in turn fills out facial contours, grooves, and hollows, and can create a “lifted” effect in the cheeks.
While the benefits of Sculptra do not appear immediately, among your dermal filler options, Sculptra offers results that are the longest lasting. Sculptra is typically administered over multiple appointments, and after a few weeks, the volumizing effects of the enhanced collagen production to your targeted areas will begin to take shape.
When Will I See Results?
Results are not immediate, and the onset of Sculptra’s benefits will depend upon a variety of factors, like volume loss and age.
Admittedly, Sculptra is not for patients who require an instant gratification treatment. Scupltra does offer the longest lasting results of any dermal filler, so we feel that its benefits are absolutely worth the wait. Just check out the before and after photos below:

Who is a Good Candidate for Treatment?
Sculptra is ideal for smoothing out medium to deep facial wrinkles, folds, and sunken areas, and is safe and effective for all skin types and skin colors.
Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should not use dermal fillers. If you’ve recently used blood thinners or have a bleeding disorder, it is recommended that you avoid dermal fillers.
Sculptra FAQ
Are There Any Side Effects?
As with any injectable treatment, common side effects can include temporary redness, tenderness, swelling, itching, mild discoloration, and bruising at the injection site. These symptoms can be alleviated with Arnica Montana and/or ice packs, and typically resolve within 2 weeks, or as little as a few days.
Sculptra is an out-patient treatment that typically takes no more than one hour to perform. Most patients feel that they can go on about their normal day activities post-treatment.
