Menage-a-Peel medium depth chemical peel for skin damage and uneven tone at Veritas Backstage Austin

SKIN TREATMENT

Ménage-à-Peel

A medium-depth peel formulated for skin with accumulated damage, uneven texture, or surface irregularity that lighter treatments cannot reach.

Ménage-à-Peel is a multi-acid chemical peel formulated for skin with more significant surface damage — uneven tone, visible texture changes, or pigmentation that has not responded to superficial treatments. The multi-acid formula targets multiple layers simultaneously, allowing deeper penetration than a single-acid peel while maintaining a predictable, manageable recovery.

This is a proprietary formulation developed at Veritas Backstage — not a commercial product. The acid combination is selected to address both surface exfoliation and deeper collagen-supporting acid activity in a single application. Patients receive the benefit of a medium-depth peel with the clinical oversight and precision of a practice-developed protocol.

This peel is reserved for patients with established skin damage. It is not appropriate as a first peel or for patients with reactive or sensitive skin that has not been adequately pre-treated

THE EXPERIENCE

The Ménage-à-Peel appointment begins with a thorough skin consultation and, in most cases, assumes a period of home skincare preparation in the weeks before treatment. The peel is applied in a controlled layer by your clinical provider. Sensation during application ranges from mild tingling to warmth; some patients experience more intense, brief sensations as the acids activate.

Neutralization timing is calibrated to your skin's response. The session takes approximately 45 to 60 minutes. Post-treatment redness is expected immediately. Over the following five to seven days, the skin will peel progressively — shedding the damaged surface layers to reveal clearer, more even skin beneath. Significant peeling between days three and five is normal and expected.

Sunscreen and gentle skincare are required during recovery. Sun avoidance is essential.

What it treats

PIGMENTATION AND TONE

  • Significant hyperpigmentation and uneven skin tone

  • Melasma (with appropriate pre-treatment protocol)

  • Sun damage and accumulated environmental pigmentation

  • Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation from acne or prior procedures

TEXTURE & STRUCTURE

  • Moderate to significant surface texture irregularities

  • Rough or thickened skin from accumulated damage

  • Visible acne scarring and texture changes

  • Fine lines at the skin surface

IDEAL CANDIDATE

The Ménage-à-Peel is appropriate for patients who have prior experience with chemical peels, have completed a pre-treatment skincare protocol as recommended, and who have five to seven days of downtime to allow for progressive peeling. It produces more significant results than superficial peels — and requires more preparation and recovery to do so safely.

Pre-treatment preparation typically includes a retinoid, a vitamin C serum, and consistent sunscreen use for four to six weeks before the peel appointment. This preparation creates an even, receptive surface that allows the peel acids to penetrate uniformly, improving the consistency of results.

Not appropriate for patients who are pregnant, who have used isotretinoin in the past six months, who have active cold sores or skin infections in the treatment area, or who have had significant UV exposure in the two weeks before their appointment.

Results and maintenance

Visible improvement is apparent as peeling completes and new skin is revealed — typically by day seven to ten. The skin appears clearer, more even in tone, and smoother in texture. Collagen-supporting activity from the deeper acid layers continues to produce improvement over the following four to six weeks. Most patients complete one to two Ménage-à-Peel treatments per year, supported by regular superficial maintenance peels and a structured home care protocol between sessions.

PAIRS WITH

RF microneedling delivers bipolar radiofrequency energy through gold-plated microneedles at adjustable depths — triggering collagen remodeling and skin tightening with minimal surface disruption.

The Ménage-à-Peel and RF microneedling address different layers of skin quality. The peel corrects surface damage, clears pigmentation, and improves tone. RF microneedling signals structural collagen production at the dermal level, improving skin density and laxity.

When sequenced — the peel first, RF microneedling six to eight weeks later once the skin has fully healed — the two treatments address the full spectrum of skin quality from the surface inward. This sequencing is appropriate for patients in the First Signs or Mature aging pathways working to address both surface damage and structural decline in a coordinated protocol.

QUESTIONS

The Ménage-à-Peel is a proprietary multi-acid formulation developed at Veritas Backstage — not a commercial product. The acid combination is calibrated to treat multiple layers simultaneously, addressing surface exfoliation and deeper collagen-supporting activity in a single application. Depth and application are adjusted for each patient's skin condition rather than standardized across appointments.

Superficial peels work on the outermost skin layer and produce mild flaking over two to three days. The Ménage-à-Peel penetrates to the mid-dermis, removing more significant layers of damaged tissue and producing five to seven days of visible peeling. The results are correspondingly more significant — clearer, more even skin with more visible improvement in texture and tone. The peel also requires more preparation before treatment and careful aftercare during recovery.

Yes. Pre-treatment preparation is a required part of the Ménage-à-Peel protocol, not optional. Your provider will prescribe a home skincare regimen — typically including a retinoid, a vitamin C, and consistent SPF use — for four to six weeks before your appointment. Arriving at your peel appointment without adequate preparation is a contraindication for the treatment.

Days one to two: redness and mild tightness. Days three to five: significant peeling as the treated skin sheds. Days six to seven: peeling completes and new skin emerges. By day seven to ten, most patients are comfortable resuming normal activities. During recovery, only gentle cleansers, prescribed recovery serums, and broad-spectrum sunscreen should be applied. No retinoids, exfoliants, or active ingredients until your provider confirms healing is complete.

The Ménage-à-Peel can be effective for certain types of melasma when combined with appropriate pre-treatment and post-peel protocols. Melasma is complex — it exists at multiple skin depths and is heavily influenced by UV exposure and hormonal factors. The most effective approach combines chemical peels, medical grade home care including prescription lighteners, and strict, consistent SPF use. Your provider will assess the type and depth of your melasma during consultation to determine whether a peel is appropriate and what protocol will support the best outcome.
